This video shows the winner of "Ukraine's Got Talent," Kseniya Simonova, 24, drawing a series of pictures on an illuminated sand table showing how ordinary people were affected by the German invasion during World War II. Her talent, which admittedly is a strange one, is mesmeric to watch.

The images, projected onto a large screen, moved many in the audience to tears, and she won the top prize of about £75,000.

She begins by creating a scene showing a couple, sitting holding hands on a bench under a starry sky, but then warplanes appear, and the happy scene is obliterated.

It is replaced by a woman's face crying, but then a baby arrives, and the woman smiles again. Once again, war returns, and Miss Simonova throws the sand into chaos from which a young woman's face appears.

She quickly becomes an old widow, her face wrinkled and sad, before the image turns into a monument to an Unknown Soldier.

This outdoor scene becomes framed by a window as if the viewer is looking out on the monument from within a house.

In the final scene, a mother and child appear inside, and a man standing outside, with his hands pressed against the glass, saying goodbye.

The Great Patriotic War, as it is called in Ukraine, resulted in one in four of the population's being killed, with eight to 11 million deaths out of a population of 42 million.

Kseniya Simonova says: "I find it difficult enough to create art using paper and pencils or paintbrushes, but using sand and fingers is beyond me. The art, especially when the war is used as the subject matter, even brings some audience members to tears. And, there's surely no bigger compliment."

Please take time out to see this amazing piece of art...

Sean Smith spent a month embedded with the US Army's 501st Parachute Regiment in June this year. With inadequate vehicles, relations with Afghan security forces at a standstill and the constant threat of IEDs, the soldiers are losing heart for a fight they feel their presence is only prolonging.

This is a stunning video in a lot of ways. The utter uselessness of the Afghan army is an open secret. So is the fact that the Afghans by and large just want us gone.

Now that American foreign policy has finally given us an independent Kosovo, I think it is very important for Americans to remember how the Orthodox Christians and Orthodox holy places have fared. In this video, an Albanian mob can be seen burning and ransacking a Christian Church in Kosovo, just one of hundreds similarly destroyed.

The first phase of testing a new software is called monkey testing. That's when you just send a bunch of garbage data and click around on panels trying to cause the system to crash. If it survives the monkeys, then you actually start trying to do real work. My recent article on Open Source reminded of this little video that circulated our office during our last development cycle. For us in the business of software, this is just plain funny!

Archbishop Demetrios of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, and chairman of SCOBA, shares a special message about the role of the Orthodox Christian Network in its mission to share the Gospel using modern media. OCN absolutely has some of the best programming in the Orthodox world, and it was very heartening for me, as the Webmaster for the OCN, to watch this video recognizing the work we've done!

On Nov. 10-13, 2008, the Orthodox Church in America held it's 15th All-American Council in Pittsburgh, PA. The main focus of the council was to elect a new Metropolitan to lead the OCA. + Jonah, who had only become a bishop 10 days previously, was elected Primate.

Fr. Thomas Hopko speaks at St. Elijah about Christianity and Armageddon. This is a great presentation for Orthodox, particularly living in the United States. Our ideas of the End Times is so heavily influenced by Protestantism that we usually don't understand the Orthodox position on these points very well.
