 The Preachers Institute is an online Orthodox Christian homiletics resource for preachers, evangelists, and apologists interested in the art of preparing and preaching sermons in the classical Orthodox oratorical tradition.
The Preachers Institute is a collaborative effort of Orthodox Christian clergy and laymen, of various juridictions, who have a powerful personal commitment to preaching the Gospel, and improving the skill and craft of homiletics and apologetics.
The Preachers Institute is an Orthodox Christian Homiletics Resource site, which will soon be offering articles, workshops, seminars and exercises designed to assist and improve the oratorical exposition of the Gospel in the Orthodox Christian Church. This is not an academic site for research into the history and practice of homiletics, though some articles and themes will cover that. Primarily, The Preachers Institute is a professional site for the promulgation of the specific skills and abilities which make preachers better at preaching.
Included in the Preachers Institute site is an online forum! It is free and only requires registration. It is here that topics can be discussed in a more in depth, personal and familiar manner.
For the preacher, priest, deacon, teacher, evangelist or apologist the clear, simple declaration of the Gospel and the teachings of Christ is a critical endeavor. Indeed, it is our most important and prominent calling. The Preachers Institute provides a place to read, study, write, learn, teach and test ideas for presentations as important as the Sunday Liturgy in the local parish, and as varied as campus ministry, street preaching and evangelism, confronting falsehood in civil discourse in the public arena, and teaching our children how to defend and proclaim their Christian faith.
The discipline of preaching the Gospel of Christ is like any other discipline, requiring a forum to express its offerings. Every preacher, teacher, homilist, clergyman, speaker, apologist and evangelist in the Church has something to offer, and something to learn. With the goal of providing direction for study, practical work, and reflection, the Preachers Institute endeavors to become the premier source for Orthodox Homiletics in North America. This will include articles, essays, seminars and workshops on rhetoric, argumentation, apologetics, homiletics, culture and narrative, and more!
The Preachers Institute is the brainchild of;
- the Rev. Dr. Sergius Halvorsen, professor of patristics and rhetoric at Holy Apostles College and Seminary, in Cromwell, CT, and
- the Rev. Dr. John A. Peck, priest of the Eastern Orthodox Church of Prescott, in Prescott, AZ.
