Orthodox Biz has introduced a free Basic Membership option that includes a listing in the Orthodox Biz Directory. The listing in the directory includes the following information:

• Business Name
• Business Contact Name and full contact information (address, phone number), if the listing has a physical location
• Business is searchable by keyword and location!
• Contact Form for visitors to get more information
• Short Business Description (80 characters)
• Website link with a screenshot of the frontpage from Thumbshots.org (if available)
• Keywords – Help categorize the listing with Google and other search engines
• Listing in Up to 5 Categories
• Update at any time
• Listing in all Search Engines! Customers may not be able to find your Website, but they will find you on Orthodox Biz!

Most free listings in business directories don’t include a Website or even any descriptive information. The Orthodox Biz free option includes both, and a whole lot more. Orthodox Biz publisher Glen Chancy explained the reasons for the new free listing option. “The economy is in the tank, and businesses are suffering because of it. To help the Orthodox community in the United States, it is imperative to help Orthodox people buy Orthodox. Our monthly mailing list is over 8,000 newsletter subscribers. Our reach is over 15,000 unique visitors a month. We are the vehicle best positioned to really help Orthodox businesses, and so that is something we are going to do.”

Non-profit, ministry, and artistic enterprises also figured in the decision. According to Glen, “There are Orthodox artists putting out CDs that need promotion. There are Orthodox books coming out on shoestring budgets and trying to go mainstream. There are ministries out there trying to get their message out and find support in the Orthodox community. All of these efforts need support, and by giving them a basic presence on Orthodox Biz we can help move forward in service to Christ and His Kingdom."

To further help the Orthodox Christian community, Orthodox Biz is also adding a class of listing for Orthodox Ministry professionals. These are counselors, choir directors, parish assistants, and others who are looking employment in an Orthodox ministry or parish. “There is no real way for Orthodox Ministry Professionals to advertise themselves and their availability on the Internet to a big audience,” Glen said, “So this is a first of its kind. For free, Orthodox professionals can introduce themselves to the world. Parishes and ministries looking for staff can come to Orthodox Biz, and find professionals that meet their needs.”

Paid Memberships in Orthodox Biz are still the mainstay of the site. As Glen explained, “Paid listings are much more complete than free listings. This means, of course, that they will tend to get more notice as they can include pictures, videos, unlimited text, graphics, and more. In addition, paid members get benefits like blogging, featured listing status, interviews, banner ads, a newsletter management tool, and much more depending on the level of membership. As the free membership options will increase site traffic even more, we expect the value of our premium membership options to increase as a result of this move.”
