D: Hi, Angel sis. Today let’s clear up some misconceptions about MLM and our Eleos business, clarify how Young Living (YL) is neither a “Ponzi” nor a “get rich quick” scheme, and show that is an equitable, private, debt-free, green, grass roots, and seed to seal company that offers rewards to everyone from new customers to entrepreneurs. A: I agree, Di! When someone asked me why a sponsor was needed to purchase our wonderful essential oil products from YL and I told her it was an MLM (multi-level marketing) company, she acted like I said a bad word! However, in truth, MLM is a good concept, and good thoughts, words, or concepts lead to good actions. D: Let’s start from the very beginning, in Genesis. We are all created in the image of God, Who is Love. And we must strive to keep that image (icon) untarnished. Thus all our actions should start with a pure heart, by loving God first and foremost, and also our fellow man. These two greatest commandments (Mark 12:30-31) in turn are based on the first commandment of putting God above all else and not worshipping false gods or idols. A: Well said, but how does this relate to MLM and our Eleos business? D: You see, Angel, MLM, network marketing or a new term I REALLY like, “relationship marketing” is just that--- purchasing products and/or partnering with people with whom you have a good relationship. It creates a level playing field that is very fair and totally based on merit. For example, even though I am your sponsor, you could greatly exceed me in your earnings! A: And, like you said, it is based on merit (achievement), not just seniority or favoritism like at many companies. How can I explain to people just how it works? D: Well, you know that I am your sister and I loved YL essential oils so much that I sponsored you into the business. Much like when I read a good book (or review a children’s book), see a good movie or go to a favorite restaurant, I want to share my positive experiences by telling everyone about them, especially my loved ones. A: Of course! Like going to Athena Restaurant in Philadelphia when I come and see you or the Uptown Parthenon when you come to Michigan! When I decided to join YL ten years ago, after you introduced me to my favorite blend, Christmas Spirit, I became a distributor to get the best (wholesale) prices. I couldn’t have cared less about the business at that time and used to leave the meetings when they talked about our business plan! (Laughs) D: I was the same way and just wanted to learn about the benefits of our essential oils and infused products! A: Since we both retired and are living on “fixed incomes” we both started looking into the business plan to earn extra income. It’s a way for “ordinary people” who do not have a lot of money to invest (say in real estate or the stock market – and even those are very risky, nowadays) to earn extraordinary income! Last year, we submitted our business story to Susan Sly of “Step Into Your Power” and she included it in her book, MLM Woman, available through Sound Concepts! I love the book and it explains about the fairness of relationship marketing. D: It costs as little as a $40 one-time fee to become a Young Living distributor and thereby get the best prices. The $40 “Start Living” kit contains 5 ml bottles of lavender and peppermint, NingXia Red samples and a 50% off diffuser coupon! There are other premium kits for $150, and those contain, in addition to the Start Living kit items and literature, more of our healthful products (like NingXia Red, the Thieves product line or the Everyday Oils collection, which includes frankincense) at special values! How incredible is that? A: Someone said that a distributor is like a member of one of those popular “wholesale buying clubs” but in YL it is even BETTER than that, as the clubs have yearly fees whereas the YL “Start Living” kits have a one-time fee in exchange for a lifetime of wholesale buying power and an excellent business opportunity. A YL distributor only needs to place one order per year for $50 PV (product value)! D: So a distributor doesn’t have to buy a lot of stuff or keep an inventory on hand for customers. I buy whatever I like and personally use every month including at least $100 PV on my Essential Rewards order. In turn, my customers and distributors, both part of my Eleos business organization, submit their own online orders that are delivered directly to their homes; I receive a commission based on their monthly purchases. A: You know, Di, my biggest “problem” is limiting what I buy each month since I love and use so many of our products regularly. I find myself changing my monthly online order frequently, and since I’ve been in the Essential Rewards program for more than one year, I earn 20% of my PV in free products! The buying clubs don’t offer that, either! D: And for a minimum purchase requirement of only $100 PV per month, a YL distributor has the potential to build a business organization that someday may go all the way up in the company! Of course, we must devote time to the members in our group, educating them and helping them to reach their goals by introducing others to the wonders of essential oils and our business plan. Personally, as I pay attention to the hopes, dreams and needs of my distributors, and as their businesses grow, mine does too. So it’s a win-win situation, and we all benefit. This relates to my mission to share my talents with others to the glory of God and His creation. A: That is so amazing! We all understand that the time and dedication we devote to helping others is priceless, yet what other company demands such a small monetary investment? So in YL being a distributor is affordable, with a one-time start-up fee and a minimum yearly purchase of only $50 PV; along with this comes the opportunity to establish your own, home-based online business with no unwanted inventory! However, if someone wants to advance in the company and be a “Business Builder”, she joins the Essential Rewards program, buys $100 PV of personally useful products a month and, after a short time, may redeem (10, 15, or 20% of) PV points for free products! And this is in addition to sales commissions and bonuses! D: Right again, sister. So there are four ways to purchase anything from our incredible YL line: as a Retail Customer, Preferred Customer, Distributor, or Business Builder. A: The category of “Business Builder” is for those motivated to achieve their hopes and dreams by building a business organization composed of personally sponsored Customers, Preferred Customers and Distributors. When your distributors start sponsoring their own people and this process is repeated, you develop depth or levels within your organization, and your bonuses begin to multiply exponentially. As you sow, so shall you reap (Galatians 6:7) D: Business Builders and People Motivator! There are other possibilities. Say for the moment that someone doesn’t care about the business part and doesn’t want to submit a social security number, but loves the products. In this case, I’d show her how she might want to set up a YL distributorship to help attain her hopes and dreams, but if she’s not interested in that yet, I’d suggest that she become a Preferred Customer who may spend as little as $50 PV per month to receive discounted prices and earn wonderful products in the Essential Rewards program! A: Don’t you just love redeeming your Essential Rewards points? I’ve earned a lot of wonderful free things with mine! It’s great to get free products and just have to pay tax and shipping. I have also used these points to send or give people gifts! D: You’re so generous! A: Well, our Lord is most generous with His plants and bounty. Every good thing, physical or spiritual, is from Him. The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it (Psalm 24). D: And our company is generous with the essential oils from God’s plants! Young Living talks about “giver’s gain”, tithing, and sharing these incredible oils with everyone. A: I think we need to explain PV in more detail. We mentioned in our last blog that PV usually equates to wholesale price. But there are a few exceptions, like rose essential oil or Wolfberry Crisp Bars, both of which have a PV that is smaller than the wholesale price. Essential Rewards points may not be redeemed for such items. And literature, catalogs and CDs don’t have PV. D: That’s correct. But mostly everything else does! And I know Wolfberry Crisp Bars are your favorite regularly ordered item, delectably crunchy with carob, wolfberries, agave, nuts, seeds and lots of protein. The new high-fiber Manna Bars do not have full PV, either, but they are non-dairy, making them a good nutritional choice during Great Lent. Power Meal is another vegan powerhouse that DOES have full PV. A: At YL, many incentives are available right from the start, even to first time customers ordering a single item. As incentives to all purchasers, there are monthly specials. Clarity was 10% off last month and Gentle Baby is 10% off this month! We’ll talk about Gentle Baby next time. From time to time there have been many other specials, such as “buy one, get one free”, or as in the case of Wolfberry Crisp Bars, “buy one, get TWO free”! D: Currently, as mentioned in our eleventh blog, if you spend 165 PV on one order through April fifteenth, you will receive a free 5 ml Idaho Balsam Fir and Angel’s favorite roll-on, Deep Relief! A: Amazing! Isn’t it comforting to know that we are able to buy our favorite personal YL products every month, save on gas, get home delivery, and be eligible for bonuses to boot? Before I forget, our products ARE also found in some retail stores and professional offices as well. Because YL is an MLM or relationship marketing company, the owners of these stores and offices have established a nurturing, supportive relationship with a sponsor who is a YL distributor. Sponsors are like godparents, and as any Orthodox Christian knows, godparents are very important. D: Yes, and where else but from YL could anyone obtain the best of personal, home, nutritional, pet, child, and first aid care products, all made in harmony with nature’s therapeutic grade essential oils? A: You are “preaching to the choir”, sister, but we really need to let our readers know about this, especially in light of our current economy. D: Right again, sister. Do you realize the word economy (economia in Greek), which means keeping our home in order, is biblically based? First we must love the Lord, our Creator, who is the source of our gifts and talents (our “home”). This is following the first great commandment, Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and soul. Then as we share these things with others, we’re following the second great commandment, Love your neighbor as yourself. (Mark 12:30-31; Leviticus 19) A: So….with love as our foundation, it’s easy to see why we’ve embraced MLM or relationship marketing as the structure for our economically and ecologically sound Eleos business. D: Amen, and blessings to all!
