faith and courage.
Orthodoxbiz is doing a wonderful job in not only drawing a good number of people to the fullness of the Faith but helping the Church have a better and more united witness, as well.
My only (requested) feedback is to insure that we first, write, telephone or if possible, see in person the respective man or woman who has been teaching wrongly.
As the Savior instructs in Mt. 18:15-17:
* a) Warn privately, in a spirit of humility then if he/she doesn't
hear you,
* b) Taking a (also, scandalized) witness or two to the person before
* c) Taking the heretic(s) or harming influence
1) if he/she has been a member of the true Church to the
hierarchy to deal with or
2) if he/she is outside the true Church, his or her teaching to
task publicly (but again, with discretion).
This is what St. Basil recommends to as you say, from real love for the person emphasize that it's the wrong teaching or scandalizing matter that God and we are angry with. While noone can think that a false teacher hardened in pride will easily change, speaking the truth in a kind way can as Mother Gavriliia would say, "bring the miracle" when there's even a small amt. of humility in the somewhat deceived one. Seeds of correct teaching will eventually grow when people frustrated with man-made "tbeologies" realize that a tried and true way exists that works, the way of the cross with thanksgiving on our lips.
(Now Metropolitan) Ierotheos Vlachos puts it well. "So many of these problems exist when people including Church leaders refuse to go through the fire of purification before assuming the role of teacher."
Respectfully in Jesus,
fr. Angelo (Evangelos Pepps)
