This chapter is sponsoring a competition to encourage the creation of new music for the harp. Mr. Anderson approached Maryjean about entering “Christmas Fantasy” into the competition. “This is just the kind of work we have been hoping to attract,” he told her. Each composer may enter up to four pieces. Maryjean plans to also enter the Cherubic Hymns that she has been working on. All of the pieces that pass to the final round of judging will be featured in a June public performance in Seattle. The winning composition will be video taped and later aired on public television in both Seattle and New York. There is also a cash prize and publication contract for the winner. Maryjean is happy that her secular piece gained attention, but is even more excited at the prospect of a public performance of the liturgical music. “I am hoping that the hymns will generate the kind of questions that will enable me to talk about my faith.” Maryjean Zarick is a member of St. Stephen, OCA in Longwood Florida.

Over the years, professional harpist, Maryjean Zarick has shared her music with other harpists in the form of printed books, but her newest publishing medium has gained her the kind of attention that really pays off. For about the last year, Maryjean has been offering individual sheet music as PDF downloads on her paid subscription website
