OB: Please give us an introduction to what you do.

Di: If I had to sum up what I do in a few words, I would say I’m a lifelong teacher, naturalist and seeker of truth and wisdom. Thus my days are filled with tutoring, teaching, caring for and entertaining family, friends and felines, cooking from scratch, tending herbs, praying and attending liturgies and bible studies and parish council meetings, reading and meditating on the lives and words of saints, and studying about, using and sharing Young Living products and business principles with others.

OB: Why did you get interested in working with Eleos? What drew you to this business?

DI: Although I had studied herbs and flirted with a few other networking companies in the past, my chiropractor introduced me to Young Living, a grassroots, seed to seal, multilevel marketing company that grows and distills therapeutic grade essential oils. The inspiration for Eleos, my business to which I bring a love of people and respect for the environment, is the excitement, fragrances and benefits of essential oils, coupled with the limitless financial opportunity and freedom of MLM. Clearly, multilevel, network or relationship marketing of natural products enables people to unleash their talents, improve their health, and help others in a spirit of trust and cooperation. Everyone wins. As an anonymous quote on a business card phrased it:“The fragrance of the rose lingers on the hand of the giver.”

OB: Do you have a mission that relates your beliefs and goals?

Yes, and I’m so glad you asked. This passage in Luke states it beautifully, “Where your Treasure is, there your Heart is also." The earth and all of creation is a treasure.

My mission is to study, practice and teach how to be a steward of the earth over which we have dominion, and especially its essential oils, our God-given gift to use and our responsibility to preserve and to share, and how to balance ourselves spiritually, physically, and financially in the process.

OB: Why is your business named Eleos?

DI: In ancient Greek, Eleos is related to the words for oil, healing, blessing, and mercy. In our Sacrament of Holy Unction (Efheleon, a term linked to eleos), healing comes as a blessing from the mercy of the Triune God through anointment with oil. As with olive oil, essential oils are natural health promoting substances from the earth, and they contain elements vital to our well-being. Of course, nature provides the materials, but the good Lord who created nature both gives and sustains life. Since “We are the first to feel the joy we give to others” (Mother Gavrilia), in helping one another, we are all blessed. So Eleos expresses a way of giving and receiving blessings in return.

OB: Introduce yourself to us and tell us a little about your background.

Di: I’m Dianne (Greek Orthodox baptismal name Konstantina), and at age nine, I taught my three-year-old sister Angel how to read. So I was interested in teaching at a very early age. Our parents were focused on family, church and education, and they were joyfully and lovingly devoted to us. Although they were great in sales, we entered into more secure but bureaucratically stressful professional positions with strict hours, little opportunity for advancement, few financial incentives, and a forest of regulatory paperwork. To meet the demands of our careers in education (Di) and social work (Angel), we hid many of our talents under a bushel.

Nevertheless, we gained life experiences and people skills, retiring early from these jobs on limited pensions that paid our bills but little more. Liberated from restrictive careers, we have been able to work our Eleos business together, freely sharing our God-given talents with everyone we meet.

Now we have the time to balance work, play and dreams, expressing our creative selves (Angel the musician and Di the herbalist), and letting our light shine through.
