Orthodox bishops speak about growth of media ministry
Written by Seraphim Danckaert
Tuesday, 15 January 2008

"I would like to see Share the Light Sunday reach out, and, in the future, [for Come Receive the Light] to be heard throughout the United States," His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios of Boston said during Sunday's live Web TV program hosted by the Orthodox Christian Network. "I know that a tremendous effort has been made these last few years to reach the greater American public in many of the major cities of the country. I'd like to see it reach every corner of the United States — not only once a week, but why not every day? There are other denominations that have radio and television programming on a daily basis. Why not Orthodoxy?"

You can watch the rest of this interview, and hear from three other Orthodox Hierarchs, on www.MyOCN.net.

Other special guests on the program included Archbishop Demetrios, Metropolitan Herman, Bishop Joseph, Fr. Demetrios Tonias and Dr. George Mekras.

DON'T MISS OUT on this unique opportunity to hear from these guests and others about the growth of Orthodox media outreach in this country, and to find out how your parish can be a part of this missionary effort during "Share the Light" Sunday on or near to January 20, 2008.

Visit www.MyOCN.net to watch the show - and be sure to invite others!

Orthodox Christian Network (OCN) is a pan-Orthodox media ministry and one of the official agencies of SCOBA, the Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas. OCN uses modern media to raise awareness of the Orthodox Christian faith in the minds of the general population and produces media tools for local parishes designed to increase the effectiveness of their own media outreach. OCN also produces Come Receive The Light, a nationally syndicated Orthodox radio program, as well as two Internet-based, 24-hour Orthodox radio stations, The Ark and The Rudder.

I would have to say, "Amen."

There is no reason.

I hope to see it soon! The more people & parishes who begin to spread the word, especially in the next few weeks as part of "Share the Light" Sunday, the closer we can get.

We're already adding a new radio affiliate -- MAYBE two.

His Eminence hit the nail on the head in the rest of his interview, too. He said that if we work together, all Orthodox jurisdictions, then we can do it. That's the key, really.

Public Access TV
written by Ted Bosen, January 18, 2008
I used to produce and broadcast a weekly program called "The Orthodox Way" in my own community on public access TV in America's Hometown, Plymouth, Massachusetts. Anyone can do this where there is public access cable TV. Just contact the public access studio in your community, and register, take the free trining course, and work with your priest on how to put together a program for your neighbors. My program had exscerpts of Liturgy with subtitles and explanations, followed by a talk by the priest. People loved it. They would stop me on the street to ask me more about the faith, and it brought strangers through our church doors. Its more personal and inviting when people see the Orthodox church at work in the comunity they live in attended by their neighbors. If this were to be encouraged nation-wide, the Orthodoxy would be busting at the seems.
